We finished our 2013 year on tuesday last with a special end of year festive club night and it was an enjoyable occasion. The club Christmas competition concluded and well done to all who took part and congrats to the winners and runnersup.
George took the Adult gents title ahead of Darius in 2nd and Pete in 3rd. Diane took the ladies title with Jennifer 2nd and Geraldine 3rd. In the Junior section, Rionagh was the girls champion ahead of Sarah in 2nd. In the boys section it was a first place for Cian with Kevin 2nd and Owen 3rd. In the cub section Amy was the girls winner with Ava 2nd and her sister Sophie 3rd. and last but not least in the cub boys section it was a 1st for Kyran with Fionn 2nd and Yan 3rd. Very well done to all.
To conclude the year and to acknowledge those who enhance the profile of Dunbrody Archers whether be it by assisting when necessary, or by having an endless pleasant attitude etc, we handed over our club persons of the year awards. These awards are not for shooting achievements throughout the year. This years plaques were lovely presentation trays from the Community Workshop. Club members sent in their nominations for each award. This years winners were Junior -Cian Kehoe for his very good attendance, his enthusiasm and ever pleasant personality, Cub – Amy Kehoe for having a constant smile and for being a great ambassador for field archery and for the club. And in the adult section it came to a tie in the end with Martin Moylan and Clodagh Nolan sharing this years title. Martins endless dedication to the club as Chairman and participant , – early arrivals, late departures, driving here and there, his assistance to members, his advice, presence and personality ensured he recieved lots of votes as did Clodagh who always gives it her all, organises things, and manages to pull things together in the thankless role as club secretary. Well done to the four winners for 2013 and thanks to all members who voted.
At this stage I as club P.R.O on behalf of the club would like to take this opportunity to extend a special thanks to the clubs number one supporter Mary Nolan for her endless support and assistance to us both at events and behind the scenes. Mary’s forward thinking, her contacts, popularity, friendly demeanour and her knowledge helped secure several event slots and greatly assisted us in the Public Relations area. She is a great asset to our club and is now well known in archery circles for her catering too. a big thanks again Mary.
Well done to all our members who excelled throughout the year. It is not the winning but the taking part that counts but we have to acknowledge the talents of our excellent young Junior Recurve archers such as Shannon, Kevin, Cian, Dylan and those underage junior and cub archers hot on their heals Amy, Ava, Sophie, Sarah, Rionagh, Fionn, Kyran, Peter, Yan etc etc (too many to name here)… not forgetting the talents of Horsebow man Jack, Compounders David & Evan and all the other up and coming youngsters who will again make us proud in 2014… Of course in Adult circles there are several dominating their classes on a frequent basis and they know who they are. Great achievements, well done all.
The club will resume on Tues 7th Jan in the hall for the start of an exciting 2014. *See club newsletter number 362 (to be emailed to club members today) and await updates nearer the time for news of our clubs participation at a special Charity fundraising event on New Years Day (Jan 1st) at Hook Head. This will be in aid of New Ross Hospice.
Next weeks newsletter 363 will feature a photo special and 364 will give the annual yearly Dunbrody club round up- of an eventful 2013.
Happy Christmas to everyone at the club and their families, all our supporters, friends, and our fellow field archers nationwide and abroad.
